Gurvis' Obituary
On Sunday, August 2, 2020, Gurvis Duan Stiner (Don), loving husband and father of four children, departed this life to meet our Lord at the age of 92.
Duan was born on August 5, 1927 to Melvin and Lola Stiner in Milfay, OK. He attended Milfay Schools and graduated in 1946. Duan was a proud veteran who served his country during World War II and the Korean War. Duan married Catherine Faye Montgomery on February 13, 1954 in Stroud, Oklahoma. From this union, four children were born: Judy Siler, Cathy Wright, Mike Stiner and Jon Stiner.
For most of his working life, Duan was a butcher and worked at M&P Stores, Warehouse Market and Escotts, but was best known around town for owning and operating Don’s Bristow Locker. Duan retired in 1989 to enjoy his family and hobbies.
Duan’s favorite pastime was fishing and was known to catch some big ones over the years. He was always excited to show his family his latest catch. Duan was also known to enjoy baseball, gardening, Wahoo, checkers and Connect Four, and he loved to cook out. Most of all, Duan loved his family and time spent with them. Duan was a kind man with a gentle spirit who was adored by all who knew him.
Duan is survived by two sons, Mike Stiner and wife, Tammy of Sand Springs and Jon Stiner and wife, Mary of Tulsa; two daughters, Judy Siler of Bristow and Cathy Wright and husband, Kenith of Broken Arrow; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Lola Stiner; his wife, Catherine Stiner; one brother, Harold Stiner; and one grandchild, Jon Stiner II.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 11 am at Hutchins-Maple Matherly Funeral Home Chapel reserved for family only. Graveside services will be at Bristow City Cemetery at 12 pm and friends and family are welcome but please follow social distancing guidelines.
